INDYCAR Mobile App Redesign

Overview
INDYCAR’s mobile fan had not been significantly updated in almost 10 years. The designs were outdated, and the user experience left much to be desired. Our team’s assignment was to overhaul the design and create a new, engaging app experience for INDYCAR fans to use both at, and away from, the racetrack.

The client had a clear vision for the new app experience. Due to a limited budget, we narrowed the project scope to maximize user enjoyment and feasibility for an MVP. The following sections of the app were set to be visually and functionally redesigned:

Our project had an extremely tight deadline, so we needed an efficient design cycle that wouldn’t get bogged down by endless tweaks. Our design cycle consisted of converting wireframes into visual designs, presenting them to the client for feedback, and incorporating that input into our final designs where they were promptly sent to the development team. By only allowing a single round of feedback per section of the app, we could quickly design the final UI of the application while ensuring the client’s requirements were properly accounted for. We also developed a new style guide for the app, which also sped up the visual design process.

App Launch & Results
The biggest challenge we faced during this project was the app’s initial release. The client required that the app be released before the first race of the season, but the development team was not completely done with QA by the time that day came.
After a few weeks of intense bug fixing and resolving minor UX issues, our team was able to get the app into solid working order. The new INDYCAR mobile app has a revitalized and modern design. It also contains all the functionality from the previous version of the app with a more streamlined and easy-to-use experience.
